"On May 16, the MacBook replaced the nearly seven-year-old iBook and brought with it a new era of consumer-grade portables from Apple. For the first time since the clam-shell style iBooks were discontinued at the beginning of 2001 is an Apple portable available in more than one color. Apple has been toying with the idea of offering both black and white devices since the iPod nano and subsequently the video-capable iPod, and now theyve begun offering their consumer-grade portable laptop, the predictably named MacBook, in similar glossy black and white models," Clint Ecker writes for Ars Technica. "An oft-bandied-about factoid is that if you were to configure the midlevel model to ship with an 80GB hard disk to match the high-end model, youd still notice that its approximately US$150 cheaper. The only difference is the color of the shell, of course. This is undoubtedly done on purpose and is the direct result of Apples experience selling iPod and iPod nanos in two color options. It didnt take long for Apple, and casual observers of Apples operations to notice that the black models were selling out faster. A lot faster. Obviously the demand for black Apple products is much higher than the white products, and Apple is simply responding as most companies would when faced by high demand for a product. People who are set on getting that black MacBook are going to have to wrestle with the US$150 artificial mark-up. Apple is banking that most people will willingly hand over even more cash to get a unique item."
Lets go over what is in every MacBook Pro that you wont be getting on the MacBook:
• Aluminum shell
• Lighted keyboard
• Ambient light sensor
• Auto-dimming display
• ExpressCard Port
• PCIe graphics system
• Higher-resolution display
• Matte display option
• Larger hard drive
The 17-inch version of the MacBook Pro goes a step further and adds a third USB 2.0 port and a FireWire 800 port. The price difference between a similarly configured MacBook and MacBook Pro (2.0GHz, 512MB, 80GB HD) comes to about US$650. Personally, I feel that the upgraded graphics, display resolution, expansion port, and lighting features are probably worth US$650 to people who need them, but since I do not, Im very content to stick with my MacBook.
Ecker notes, "The MacBook comes standard with options to use two-finger scrolling (both vertically and horizontally) as well as a new option to use the presence of two fingers on the pad as a modifier for the mouse button. When holding two fingers on the track pad, the click can be interpreted as a right-click instead of a left-click. This feature is strangely absent from the 15" MacBook Pros but is intact on the 17" MacBook Pro and the MacBook."
"Apples new consumer level laptop is full of new features (iSight, widescreen display, MagSafe power connector, optical audio connections, etc.) and the prices are reasonable. The machines value is increased exponentially by Apples foresight to sanction the installation of Windows XP alongside the venerable OS X. Being able to boot into Windows to check out a new Windows app or to play a fun Windows-only game makes me that much happier I made this purchase," Ecker writes. "For me, the MacBook is more than enough computer, but Ill get used to it. Apple has thrust themselves back into a state of competitiveness when it comes to the consumer laptop space, and even offers prospective users features that other computer manufacturers cannot. Someone who buys a Dell or HP laptop cannot legally or easily boot OS X and Windows, and other laptops just

Laptop Dell XPS 15z Reviews
Dell XPS 15z Reviews
Author: Patricia E. Klem
As a big head of computer manufacture, Dell also brings us many surprises. The following are some detailed reviews of Dell XPS 15z. Dell XPS 15z delivers the power you need inside one of the thinnest 15" PCs on the planet. Easy-to-use Dell Stage software keeps the things you care about at your fingertips, giving you the best of everything while sacrificing nothing. The new XPS 15z is a fresh start, although it carries over a few touches, such as the inset lid hinges that move the screen slightly closer to the user. Otherwise, this is a sleek metallic box, less than 2.5cm thick and thankfully monochrome — except for some chrome borders around the edge. Yes, its very thin, but not as thin as the 15in. MacBook Pro. But honestly, the two are within a hair of each other. Despite the slimness of the body, the XPS 15z still feels sturdy and solid; its dense, but not too heavy.
The interior is sparse, with only a backlit keyboard, a touchpad, a power button and a pair of large speaker grilles on either side of the keyboard. In many current 15in. notebooks, youll find a keyboard paired with a separate number pad, but in this case the speakers eat up that space (and then some). Although its very usable, the keyboard looks and feels small, and the shallow island-style keys arent the most comfortable for long-term typing. The keyboard is backlit, but at some angles, the pale silver keys and the white backlight combined to wash out the actual letters, making it hard for non-touch-typists to see.
The large multitouch touch pad is generously sized, but its not one of the newer clickpad-style ones lately. Instead, its a flat pad with two large mouse buttons beneath it. Its native resolution is 1,920 by 1,080 pixels. The screen lacks the edge-to-edge glass that many high-end multimedia notebooks include, but off-axis viewing angles were excellent. Note that the 15in. MacBook Pro tops out at only 1,680 by 1,050 pixels.
Of course you still have to keep in mind that these are notebook speakers, and the sheer physics of cramming them into a laptop will keep them from pushing too much air. In use, the speakers were plenty loud, but also thin and lacking low end — at least at the default settings.
The XPS 15z is the first notebook to go all USB 3.0 — or at least have no standalone USB 2.0 ports (there is a combo USB 2.0/eSATA port). With Thunderbolt, Intels new peripheral technology currently, only available from Apple as its main opposition, USB 3.0 seems to have all the momentum to become the next-generation high-speed data port. Also included is Intels Wireless Display technology, which can beam on-screen video to a TV with the help of a sold-separately receiver box, and 3D support via HDMI, for playing 3D content back on a 3D-compatible TV.
With the 2.7GHz Intel Core i7-2620M in our XPS 15z, the system performed admirably, comparable to the Alienware M14x and the previous version of the XPS 15, both of which also have current-gen Intel Core i7 CPUs (although in both those cases they were quad-core CPUs).
Although XPS is Dells high-end multimedia brand, hard-core PC gamers would do better to consider Dells Alienware brand instead. The included Nvidia 525M GPU is a middle-of-the-road part and fine for most casual gamers.
Although the 3 hours and 30 minutes the Dell XPS 15z ran on the battery drain test was acceptable for a 15in. system, Apples MacBook Pro ran for twice as long, and even the previous generation of XPS 15 notebooks ran for an additional 30 minutes.

Find Reviews of the Acer Aspire AS5251 1805

This little number sure is cheap! And Acer would like you to believe cheerful too. And it has to be said the Acer Aspire AS5251-1805 is one of the best selling laptops on the planet at the moment and also after over 100 user reviews on Amazon and still maintaining an average of around 80% positive t must be something worthwhile about it?
And I have to agree t is. The Acer Aspire AS5251-1805 is one of those rare occasions when a laptop manufacturer shops around for the cheap components while aiming for a minimum specification and performance and actually achieves a laptop that is worthwhile.
The perhaps obvious word of caution is that the Acer Aspire AS5251-1805 is definitely not for everyone. It is not for example for somebody who want something cutting edge or a laptop with a bit of a bite.
So check out my index of reviews for the Acer Aspire AS5251-1805 before you spend your money.
- Over 100 reviews on Amazon.com

- Probably the best pro-review

Reviews Result Dell Inspiron Mini 9 Display More Accurate Than Macbook Pro
Well, this came as a surprise. Whether you liked Macs or you didnt, for a long time it has been hard not to concede that Macbook displays have been superior to standard notebook displays, much to the joy of photographers and designers everywhere. So whats all this about a Dell Inspiron Mini 9 topping the new MBP 15" in color accuracy?Professional photographer Rob Galbraith uses his Dell Inspiron Mini 9 daily. No, it cant handle tough conversions and complex tasks, but its perfect to "import, select and transmit JPEGs" as well as the standard netbook uses of email and web browsing. What he didnt expect was that the viewing quality would exceed that of the new 15" Macbook Pro.
Gilbraiths biggest problem with the new MBP is the dont-even-think-about-opening-that-shade all glass glossy display. The display caused enough problems, apparently, that the Macbook rated 4th out of the 4 laptops tested. Two Lenovo entries were also tested and they were rated the top two of the bunch, with the Dell coming in 3rd.
For the longest time, Apple laptop displays ruled the roost around here. With very few exceptions, going back to the days of the PowerBook G4, portable Macs were considerably more colour accurate [than anyone else]. Thanks to Lenovo, however, and Apples decision to standardize on the glossiest of glossy screens... Macs are no longer at the top of the laptop display heap in our minds.
Gilbraith does admit that the viewing angles on the MBP are much better that those on the Dell Mini, and if your emphasis lies with that the MBP catapults all the way up to 3rd place in his rankings, passing the Mini. But no matter which way you look at it, this is visibly eye-popping news given the dramatic price difference between the Dell (~$300) and the MBP (~$2000).
